The Cavendish - London
The Cavendish Hotel is a 230 bedroom, 4 star deluxe hotel situated on prestigious Jermyn Street, in the heart of Mayfair parallel to Piccadilly in Central London. The Cavendish London stands on the very site of the original Cavendish hotel whose most famous owner was the redoubtable Rosa Lewis, better known as the “The Duchess of Duke Street”.
The present building was opened as a hotel in 1966, when it was considered one of the most modern hotels of its kind at the time. As part of a major refurbishment Woods were contracted to remove AIB debris to ceiling voids, risers, meeting rooms and basement plantrooms and the removal of partitioning and the decontamination of the ceiling void above the entire reception area accessed via a dancefloor scaffold.
As the hotel was to remain fully operational during the works the project required careful planning in close collaboration with the client. A key consideration at the planning stage was ensuring the works were carefully segregated (hoarding and signage) from hotel guests, staff and members of the public. This included constructing a canopy over the rear courtyard which ensured guests were unable to view the daily activities of our site teams, including transiting procedures.
The loading and unloading of waste materials was undertaken out of hours utilising a collection service to avoid the need to site a sealed waste container.

Fulham Football Club
Fulham Football Club has gained approval to redevelop their Riverside Stand. The new design will bring the capacity of Craven Cottage up to 30,000 and bring landmark improvements for both the club and the local community. To facilitate this redevelopment Woods were commissioned to carry out asbestos removal to the undercroft running the entire length of the Riverside Stand.
The undercroft was contaminated and contained sprayed asbestos debris mixed within the soil that was present around support columns, trenches and on top of the original concrete terracing that now sits beneath the existing stand. Beams that support the existing stand also contained sprayed residues beneath the existing fire protection and required removal. Works had to be phased around match days and functions and on some phases additional pre-planned out of hours shifts were implemented to ensure work could be completed on time.

Boundary Business Park
Woods were appointed as Principal Contractor to remove high level sprayed asbestos residue to 2500 L/M of steel beams to five industrial units within a busy trading estate. All beams were cleaned using the “quill” blasting technique. Approximately 19,000 bricks and 5,600 blocks were removed and disposed of as contaminated waste.
All works were carried out within a “cocooned” scaffold totalling 24,000m3 in size delivered via crane in two phases. In addition we removed 240m3 of contaminated land from the rear of the site.

Woking Business Park
Woods were contracted to remove a collapsed asbestos cement roof from three fire damaged adjoining industrial units. The fire damaged building was unsafe and therefore all supporting walls and the collapsed roof had to be removed by machine using asbestos trained operators followed by an extensive decontamination process both within the building and to the adjoining units.
Bespoke scaffold screens were erected either side of the damaged units to prevent the spread of asbestos.

Former BHS Taunton
Woods were recently commissioned to undertake remediation works to the Former BHS retail store in Taunton.
Acting as Principal Contractor these essential works have been necessary to facilitate a new retail business unit which will include Poundland and a gym above the shop.
Works included the safe removal of AIB panels and debris within ceiling voids to the ground floor, AIB to columns throughout, and various works to back of house areas.

Former BHS Exeter
Woods have recently completed remediation works to the former BHS Exeter store.
At over 40,000sq ft the store is one of the biggest retail units in Exeter City Centre and was one of the last of the 163 BHS stores to close.
Acting as Principal Contractor works included the removal of AIB walls and firebreaks within ceiling voids throughout, AIB to the shop frontage and various internal columns together with numerous AIB to high level boxing(s) and riser cupboards.
Plans have been submitted to transform the store to facilitate a large gym on parts of the ground, first and second floors along with changing rooms and staff areas.
